Turned to us

Pharyngitis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane and lymphoid tissue of the pharynx. It is accompanied by pain and discomfort in the throat, pronounced hyperemia of the posterior pharyngeal wall and the palatal arches. With good immunity, a complete cure is possible in 10-14 days. Symptomatic treatment of the patient is prescribed by an ENT specialist after establishing the causes of the disease.

Causes and symptoms of pharyngitis

Depending on the etiology, pharyngitis can be:

  • viral – caused by pathogens of ARVI and influenza;
  • bacterial – if staphylococci, streptococci, pneumococci enter the body;
  • allergic – due to irritation of the throat with tobacco, alcohol, or chemicals.

In addition to bacteria and viruses, hypothermia and cold drinks can be the cause of inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa. Due to reduced immunity, hypovitaminosis, and radiation, a person is more susceptible to colds, in which pharyngitis pathogens are activated.

The symptoms of acute pharyngitis are pronounced:

  • itchy throat;
  • a lump in the throat,
  • constant dryness;
  • high temperature;
  • pain when swallowing.

During the disease, there is general malaise; swelling of the mucous membrane occurs on the rear and lateral side of the pharynx, as well as in the nasopharynx dome and in the mouths of the pharyngotympanic tubes. Inflammation of the tonsils is not noted, but the cervical lymph nodes are enlarged, and congestion and pain in the ears may appear. Complications of pharyngitis are inflammatory processes in the larynx and trachea.

With ineffective treatment, acute pharyngitis can turn into chronic, and even worse, one of its severe forms - granular pharyngitis. Its signs in the initial form are nodular red formations on the rear wall of the larynx. With the further development of the disease, pathological proliferation of the pharynx tissues occurs, dry cough increases, hoarseness appears, and the the voice timbre changes.

Untreated pharyngitis becomes a constant source of infections in the throat and can lead to dysfunction of the heart, kidneys, and brain. Treatment of the chronic form is long and should be carried out under the control of an ENT specialist.

How is pharyngitis treated?

In the clinic “DoctorPRO” in Cherkasy, ENT specialist performs hardware diagnostics for establishing the diagnosis. The patient has the opportunity, together with the doctor, to see the state of his throat on the monitor screen. To determine accurately the cause of the disease, bacteriological or viral, the doctor refers the patient to a throat swab test.

After the examination, depending on the cause, a complex conservative treatment is prescribed:

  • aerosols;
  • inhalation;
  • throat lozenges;
  • gargarism with antiseptic solutions;
  • course of antibiotics (in case of the bacterial nature of the disease).

In the clinic, progressive methods of pharyngitis treatment are applied. Using the ultrasonic low-frequency apparatus Tonzillor-MM, the rear wall of the pharynx is processed with ultrasound. The therapeutic properties of ultrasound relieve pain, and the pharyngeal mucosa after ultrasound anti-inflammatory therapy is restored faster.
